THE DOCTRINE OF AVATARS

According to the doctrine of avatars, during the moments of world crisis this causes a divine intervention in the form of a world savior, a divine messenger, or an avatar. This doctrine is found in all the basic world religions :

-         Doctrine of the Avatars of the Hindu faith,

-         Return of Maitreya Buddha or the Kalki Avatar

-         Return of Christ

-         Prophesied issuing forth of the divine Adventurer of the Moslem world.

During every human crisis, and at the moments of great necessity the heart of God responds, pushed by the law of compassion. He sends an Instructor, a world Savior, a Light bearer, or an Avatar. At every critical and necessary demand made by a suffering humanity, God responds. This shows the love and compassion of God.

The purpose of Avatars are three in number :

-         Gives the message which heals

-         Shows the next step to be taken by humanity

-         Brings a new divine aspect for which humanity has no current knowledge and understanding.

Every new revelation has an effect to advance humanity closer to the goal. The coming of an Avatar will bring progress, rejection of limitations, rejection of the undesirable and evil conditions. Each new revelation pushes mankind closer to the subjective world, the world of causes, because the Avatar reveals the path of Light to humanity.

Definition :

« Being who, having first developed his Own nature, human and divine, and then transcended it, is capable of reflecting some cosmic Principle or divine quality and energy which will produce the desired effect upon humanity, evoking a reaction, producing a needed stimulation and, as it is esoterically called, leading to the rending of a veil and the permeation of light. »

Sanscrit word :                 

« Coming down for far away. Coming down with the approval of the higher source from which it came and with benefit to the place at which it arrives. »

Therefore, an Avatar above all else is a divine mediator, as the soul is an intermediary between the Monad and the personality.

An avatar transmits a divine energy, as the Christ transmits to humanity the divine energy of Love. Representant of God, an Avatar incarnates the  divine purpose and has an effect on the whole world. The coming of an Avatar represents a very important spiritual event for the evolution of humanity and for the evolution of our planet, because this event opens a new age and a new civilization, and will lead man closer to the divine source.

            The Avatars come during a time of crisis, when evil (egoism, hate, separativity, materialism) rules. Then, the coming of an Avatar is not only possible today but desired by an increased number of waiting people. The unanimous invocation of humanity, directed with a massed determination, creates a potent effect.  There exists in the soul of man a link with the divine nature of the Avatar. In the active and awaken heart of man exists a divine center of energy able to evoke a response from the Coming One :

 « Lets the souls of men awaken to the Light,

     and may they stand with massed intent.»

The origin of this divine energy can come from different sources :

-         this energy may be generated within the human family and focused in a responsive Messenger (the Christ) ;

-         it may be generated within the planet itself and produce a planetary Avatar (Sanat Kumara) ;

-         it may be the expression of the life impulse and energy of the solar system, or of sources outside the solar system and therefore cosmic (the Avatar of Synthesis).

But always :

-         it is focused through a manifesting Entity,

-         it is called forth by a demand or massed appeal,

-         it evokes response and consequent changes in the life activity, the culture and the civilization of mankind.

The establishing of a nucleus of persistent energy, spiritually positive, is the constant task of an Avatar. He focuses or anchors a dynamic truth, a potent thought form or a vortex of magnetic energy in the world of human living (physical, etheric, emotional and mental). This focal point acts increasingly as a transmitter of spiritual energy. It enables humanity to express some divine idea and this in time produces a civilization with its accompanying culture, religions, policies, governments and educational processes. The history of humanity reflects the cyclic appearance of Avatars.

            Avatars are of all degrees and kinds. The Christ and the Buddha are the most famous. They had reached the point where They could act as Transmitters of certain cosmic principles which could stimulate the deeply hidden and latent corresponding principle in humanity.

            There is another type of Avatar, greater than the others ; these Avatars have not, in this world cycle, experienced human life. They appear rarely, but the effectiveness and results of Their work are very great. These Avatars express the Will of God and issue forth into manifestation via the center at Shamballa. They embody divine purpose and it will be the destroyer aspect of the first ray of power which They will express. They bring about death, the death of all old and limiting forms and of that which houses evil.

They can only be reached by the united voices of the Hierarchy and of humanity speaking in unison and when certain conditions are meet :

-      a realized need

-      a deep faith

-      to have done their utmost, alone and unaided, to overcome evil.

Finally, these great Avatars never descend lower than the mental plane.

            A major conflict takes place today in the world : the spiritual and the material are in conflict, and humanity itself is the battleground. A moment of great tension and of difficulty has been reached. The need of love, comprehension and of right human relations grows and rises in a despaired call. The opportunity is now arrived for the coming of a great Avatar, the Avatar of Synthesis, whose emergence will save humanity against its inferior and destructive tendencies. But He will come only when humanity has itself done everything possible to adjust that which is wrong and to end that which is evil, and has carried this effort even to the sacrifice of life itself.

The coming of an Avatar requires an important preparatory work. The entire Hierarchy stands with massed intent. Disciples, aspirants and men of goodwill must now assume their responsibility. Are they ready to struggle with a determined effort for the defeat of evil ? Is their love of humanity strong enough to keep a steady and concentrated intention, to lead them to an absolute renunciation and to encourage them for a bigger sacrifice ? That is the problem facing humanity today.
